The Periarticular Locking Plate System aims to combine optimal fit with advanced locking technology to offer a system for the treatment of comminuted fractures or fractures where deficient bone stock or poor bone quality is a factor.

One of the most difficult challenges in the treatment of periarticular fractures is bending the plate to fit the specific profile. 91Թ’s advanced periarticular plates were developed using digital laser bone-scanning technology. The data was used to guide advanced fabricating technologies in the precise manufacture ofpre-contouredimplants.

Zimmer’s periarticular plate designs decrease in thickness toward the joint line presenting a minimallyinvasivetechnique thatis designed to help minimizesoft-tissue irritation and simplifies any additional contouring. These precontoured plates help with metaphyseal/diaphyseal reduction, facilitating fixationwhile minimizingimpinging on soft tissue. The reduced thickness alsointended to allowthe implant to “autocontour” as the screws draw the plate toward the bone. The tapered plate shaft design, combined with specialized instrumentation, provides for submuscular passage of the plate and fixation that utilizes a minimally invasive technique.

Optimal Screw Technology

Locking screwtechnology givessurgeons the ability to create a fixed-angle construct while using familiar plating techniques. Multiple screw holesare designedwith optimal screw trajectoriestohelp capture small fragments.The locking plate design does not require compression between the plate and bone to accommodate loading. Therefore, the screw purchase in the bone can be achieved with ashallow thread profile.

UniversalLockingSystem (ULS) Holes

The plate shaft includes ULS holes, which are figure-8 shaped and will accommodate standard or locking screws on either side of the hole. As a result, the plate can be used, depending upon the fracture situation, as compression plate, a locked internal fixator or as an internal fixation systemcombiningboth techniques. The plates enable thesurgeonto treat fractures using compression plating techniques with standard cortical and cancellous screws. Thisis designed to allowapplication of the implant as an internal fixator to bridge highly commuted zones while providing stable fixation, utilizing both standard and locking screws in the same construct. Additionally, the systemis intended toapplybi-directional axial compression within the construct as well as the ability to utilize unicortical locking fixation as necessary.
